Two steps to take before going on a sun holiday

If you're planning to go on a sun holiday in the near future, here are a couple of steps you might want to take before you leave.

Remove unwanted body hair

During a typical sun holiday, most people spend a lot of time by the pool or at the beach. As a result, the vast majority of their outfits consist of swimwear and beachwear. These types of clothing tend to reveal quite a bit of skin. If you don't like the idea of your body hair being exposed in these garments, it might be worth going for a waxing session before your trip begins.

Whilst you can of course simply shave every day throughout your holiday, this can be time-consuming and tedious. Furthermore, shaving regularly can result in skin irritation, which could end up being exacerbated by the sweat your body produces as a result of the high temperatures.

Waxing before your holiday begins will spare you the hassle of having to worry about hair removal during what is supposed to be a fun and relaxing trip, as the results of this treatment usually last about three to four weeks. It's best to get your legs or other body parts waxed a few days prior to your holiday, as waxing can cause temporary redness, swelling and blotchiness. These symptoms will normally disappear of their own accord after a couple of days.

Stock up on skin-protecting products and accessories

The sun can do serious damage to your skin; in addition to accelerating the aging process, getting burned can also increase your risk of developing skin cancer in the future. As such, it's important to ensure that you have everything you need to protect your skin throughout the duration of your sun holiday.

Ideally, you should have one sunscreen for your body and another which is designed specifically for use on facial skin. This is particularly important if you suffer from acne or are simply prone to blemishes, as body sunscreens can sometimes cause breakouts when used on the face.

Additionally, invest in a few stylish accessories that will serve as a physical barrier between your skin and the sun. A wide-brimmed sunhat and large pair of sunglasses should be enough to keep the sun's rays out of your face and eyes.

If you love the look of tanned skin and feel that you might be tempted to sunbathe during your trip, consider investing in a spray tan before you head away. This will enable you to achieve that lovely glow without harming your skin.
